چکیده

Molecular communication provides a direct method for interfacing living cells via transmission of chemical signals. Here we report our recent result of developing a novel molecular communication method based on the cellular event called autophagy. The method currently under investigation uses micrometer-sized objects coated with bio-reactive molecules as information carrying molecules, which are selectively incorporated into and decoded within biological cells. This short paper briefly describes the method, experimental results, and theoretical model for the molecular communication method based on autophagy.

Sound and Image Processing with Optical Biocomputers

This paper introduces a new method to perform signal processing using cells or atoms to synthesize variation in digital data stored in optical format. Interfacing small-scale biological or chemical systems with information stored on CD, DVD and related disc media has been termed molecular media. This is defined as micron or nanoscale interference and/or augmentation of optical data translation ...

Electronic interfacing with living cells.

The direct interfacing of living cells with inorganic electronic materials, components or systems has led to the development of two broad categories of devices that can (1) transduce biochemical signals generated by biological components into electrical signals and (2) transduce electronically generated signals into biochemical signals. The first category of devices permits the monitoring of li...

Rab11 is required for maintenance of cell shape via βPS integrin mediated cell adhesion in Drosophila

In eukaryotes, vesicle trafficking is regulated by the small monomeric GTPases of the Rab protein family. Rab11, (a subfamily of the Ypt/Rab gene family) an evolutionarily conserved, ubiquitously expressed subfamily of small monomeric Rab GTPases, has been implicated in regulating vesicular trafficking through the recycling of endosomal compartment. In an earlier communication, we have shown th...

Next-generation probes, particles, and proteins for neural interfacing

Bidirectional interfacing with the nervous system enables neuroscience research, diagnosis, and therapy. This two-way communication allows us to monitor the state of the brain and its composite networks and cells as well as to influence them to treat disease or repair/restore sensory or motor function. To provide the most stable and effective interface, the tools of the trade must bridge the so...
